KOHIMA: In a move to enhance transparency and efficiency within the judiciary, the Kohima bench of the Gauhati High Court has inaugurated its online Right to Information (RTI) portal.

Accessible through a dedicated “RTI” tab on the official website of the Gauhati High Court’s Kohima bench, the online RTI portal now boasts a user-friendly interface and operates on an end-to-end paperless mode.

Moreover, the online platform facilitates secure fee payments via Internet banking or UPI, further enhancing user convenience.

The unveiling ceremony of the RTI portal, held in the Kohima bench premises, was graced by the esteemed presence of Justice Devashis Baruah and Justice Sushmita Phukan Khaund, both eminent judges of the Gauhati High Court.

Justice Baruah, accompanied by the information and communication technology in-charge of the Kohima bench, spearheaded the symbolic filing of the inaugural online paperless e-RTI application, setting a precedent for digital engagement with the judicial system.

Section 6 (1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, enshrines the statutory right of information seekers to submit applications electronically, a provision now effectively harnessed by the Gauhati High Court’s Kohima bench.

Traditionally, RTI applications were confined to physical submission, posing logistical challenges for accessibility.

However, with the advent of the online RTI portal, the process has been streamlined, offering citizens a convenient platform to seek information pertaining to the functioning of the Gauhati High Court and its satellite benches.

Indian citizens now have the facility to lodge RTI applications and file appeals seamlessly through the dedicated web portal.

Buoyed by the success of the initiative, plans are underway to extend the online RTI facility to all district courts across Nagaland, heralding a new era of transparency and accessibility within the state’s judicial landscape.
