GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati concluded the Phase 3 of the “Yuva Sangam programme” under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) by the Ministry of Education, on Tuesday.

Acting as the nodal centre for Assam, IIT Guwahati welcomed 41 student delegates and 5 faculty coordinators from 26 higher education institutions of Maharashtra, turning the campus into a vibrant hub of cultural exchange and immersive learning experiences.

Running from January 16, Yuva Sangam Phase 3 went beyond conventional boundaries, focusing on paryatan (tourism), pragati (development), paraspar smapark (people-to-people connect), and prodyogik (technology).

The planned itinerary offered the delegates a multi-dimensional exposure, engaging them in a diverse range of activities.

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, officiating director of IIT Guwahati, said that more than just an event, the programme was a transformative journey for the youth.

He highlighted the initiative’s role in fostering intellectual exchange, cultural immersion, entrepreneurship, and skill development, shaping a generation of well-rounded individuals ready to contribute substantially to society.

Prof. Bithiah Grace Jaganathan, Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs, and EBSB Nodal Officer, IIT Guwahati, reflected on the enriching experience of hosting Maharashtra’s student delegates.

The event, as part of EBSB, cultivated a spirit of camaraderie as delegates from Maharashtra engaged with those from Assam and the students of IIT Guwahati.

The programme included visits to various locations showcasing Assam’s rich heritage, contemporary developments, and cultural practices.

Notable events included a visit to Darrangamela village near the India-Bhutan border, an interactive session with the Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and exploration of Sualkuchi village, renowned for producing the finest silk.

The delegates also witnessed entrepreneurship at NEST, engaged in sports events, and visited Signova Healthcare, a pharmaceutical company specialising in cutting-edge research and development.

A cultural extravaganza organized by IIT Guwahati and Assamese participants highlighted the diverse cultural heritage of Assam.

Reflecting on the experience, Riddhi Sunil Dakhole from IISER Tirupathi, praised the start-up event and the friendly nature of IIT volunteers.
