GUWAHATI: As the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, spearheaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, entered Assam’s Sivsagar on Thursday, it encountered a protest led by former Youth Congress leader.

Accusing Indian Youth Congress leader Srinivas BV of harassment, Dutta expressed her hope for justice, asserting, “I was expelled for seeking justice against an oppressor.”

Meanwhile, Gandhi, at the helm of the yatra, entered Assam through Haluwating in Sivasagar district from Nagaland at around 9:45 am on Thursday.

Gandhi was greeted by party workers upon arrival in Haluwating, where the national flag was ceremoniously handed over to Assam Congress leaders, marking the commencement of an eight-day journey within the state.

Addressing the gathering, Rahul Gandhi drew parallels with the ideology of Sankardev, stating, “This (Bharat Jodo Nyay) Yatra is a yatra of the ideology of Sankardev. He showed you (people) the way, tried to unite everyone and fought a battle against injustice, and the Bharat Jodo Yatra aims to do the same. Probably, India’s most corrupt govt is in Assam,” as reported by a national daily.

Ahead of this yatra in Assam, political tensions arose when Senior Congress leader Alka Lamba urged the BJP-led Assam government not to obstruct the ongoing procession.

Expressing optimism, Lamba predicted that Congress, with its existing three Lok Sabha members from Assam, would elevate its tally to double digits in the state, contributing to the total of 14 MPs sent to the Lower House of Parliament.

The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ is set to traverse 110 districts in 15 states, with the Assam leg continuing until January 25.

Earlier on January 17, Gandhi addressed a public address at VK Town in Nagaland before journeying to Mokokchung town, where he engaged with the public and held an interaction at Amoklushi Chuchuyimpang.

The day also saw the Congress leader paying a visit to the Gandhi Ashram at Chuchuyimlang, followed by a public meeting at Changtongya.

The day concluded with a night halt at Tuli, before his departure to Assam the following day.
