KOHIMA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) entered Chiephobozou Town in Nagaland on Tuesday.
After a night halt at Khuzama, a town about 28 km from the state capital, the yatra reached Kohima and is slated to cover over 250 km in five districts of the state.
In Kohima, Gandhi visited the World War-II Cemetery for a wreath-laying programme, before walking up to Phoolbari and addressing a public gathering at the High School junction.
Earlier on the night of January 15, Gandhi’s engaged in discussions with the Khuzama Village Council and various civil society organisations, including the influential Naga Hoho.
Post the meeting, Naga Hoho president HK Zhimomi shared that the discussions revolved around the resolution of the vexed Naga political issue. He told the local press that the organisation has expressed its concerns on the Centre’s prolonged “lack of sincerity” to address the matter.
Gandhi, in response, assured the delegation that he would raise the matter in the Parliament.
“A delegation of the Naga HOHO representing Naga organisations from different states met @RahulGandhi late this evening at the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra campsite at Khuzama ground in Nagaland. It handed over a memorandum on the non-implementation of the Framework Agreement signed by the Govt of India and the NSCN-IM on 3rd August, 2015, and that had been hailed by the Prime Minister as a breakthrough and a solution…” wrote senior party leader Jairam Ramesh, on a micro-blogging website.
Gandhi’s schedule on January 17 in Nagaland includes a public address at VK Town.
He will then journey to Mokokchung town, where he plans to engage with the public and hold an interaction at Amoklushi Chuchuyimpang.
The day will also see a visit to the Gandhi Ashram at Chuchuyimlang, followed by public addresses at Changtongya. Wednesday will conclude with a night halt at Tuli, before his departure to Assam the following day.
