GUWAHATI: With the spirit of gratitude and reverence, the 8th Armed Forces Veterans Day was commemorated under the aegis of HQ Eastern Command in Guwahati on Sunday.
The ceremony drew together 1200 veterans from Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur, highlighting the widespread impact of the selfless service rendered by the armed forces’ veterans.
Presided over by Ranjit Kumar Das, Minister for Panchayat Development, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, the event brought together not only government representatives but also senior serving and veteran Armed Forces officers.
Expressing profound gratitude, Minister Das acknowledged the soldiers’ unmatched courage and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
Rich tributes were paid to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, reinforcing the significance of their selfless contributions.
The commemoration began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Narangi War Memorial, where senior serving and veteran officers paid homage to the fallen heroes.
The event further facilitated a platform for veterans to address their grievances, with multiple stalls providing information about various welfare schemes run by both Central and State Governments.
The occasion pays tribute to the unwavering dedication and sacrifices of ex-servicemen, embodying a collective show of solidarity toward the next of kin of our brave hearts.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were civil and Armed Forces leaders, including Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, GOC 101 Area, Maj Gen PS Joshi, GOC 51 Sub Area, and Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi (Retd).
The ceremony not only marked a day of remembrance but also served as an avenue for acknowledging and addressing the needs of the esteemed Armed Forces veterans.
