GUWAHATI: In a bold move, Gaurav Gogoi, Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha, lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the INDIA Alliance protest rally against the suspension of 144 MPs, in New Delhi on Friday.
Directly addressing PM Modi, Gogoi questioned the Prime Minister’s absence from the House, contrasting it with his recent interview to a newspaper. ” Why is it that the Prime Minister doesn’t grace the House but chooses to convey his mann ki baat through a newspaper? This reflects a sense of arrogance, and it’s high time we come together to challenge and break it,” urged the Koliabor MP.
Gogoi challenged the Prime Minister to witness the strength of the Opposition’s resolve at Jantar Mantar, stressing that the unprecedented suspension won’t deter their fight.
“If you feel we would be threatened by the unprecedented suspension of 144 legislators from the Lok Sabha and would give up; you are wrong. I would like to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come here and see for himself how strong we have become,” declared Gogoi.
Stressing on the Alliance’s commitment to resist the “atrocities” of the BJP government, Gogoi stated, “We will continue with our fight as it’s in our DNA. And today, we are fighting to keep India together, for the prestige of our party, for the farmers and the labourers.”
Gogoi’s remarks were part of the ongoing protest by Opposition leaders, sparked by the December 13 security breach in the Parliament and subsequent suspension of 144 opposition MPs.
The suspensions resulted from the Opposition’s demand for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on the Parliament security breach. The INDIA Alliance has decided to organise a nationwide protest against these actions.
