GUWAHATI: The Assamese music industry mourns the loss of Arun Das, a beloved Assamese singer whose soul-stirring renditions captivated hearts for decades.
The 70-year-old artiste, known for his enchanting love songs, breathed his last on Sunday, succumbing to a prolonged battle with illnesses.
Das passed away at approximately 4:45 am on Sunday morning at his residence in the Sarumotoria area in Guwahati.
The singer’s final moments were marked by a serene departure, leaving behind a legacy of melodious tunes that once graced the cultural landscape of the state.
In the eighties and nineties, Das held a well-known position as one of Assam’s most revered singers.
However, in the subsequent years, he gradually faded from the limelight, leaving a void in the music industry.
Das’s musical journey was adorned with popular hits, including Tumi Janu Jana Sun, Kiman Morom Tumale, Xasisilu Gopone Gopone, and more.
His mastery over the art, coupled with a voice that resonated with emotion, provided solace to fans both in moments of elation and despair.
The singer’s iconic performances, accompanied by his skilful strumming of the guitar, will be etched in the memories of his admirers.

Earlier in May 2021, the artiste faced a severe health setback when he and his wife, Pinky, were diagnosed with COVID-19.
Admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Das expressed distress in a viral video, citing neglect in the hospital’s care.
The Film Fraternity of Assam (FFA) responded to the distress, with prominent figures such as singer Zubeen Garg and actor Pabitra Rabha extending aid to the ailing artist.
Das’s demise is not just a loss to the Assamese music industry but also a poignant moment for the cultural fabric of Assam.
