Guwahati: The Indian Army has started imparted training to the new recruits of commando battalions of Assam Police.
The 40-weeks training under Indian Army started from November 21 at seven locations in Assam and Meghalaya.
The training will be conducted for 40 weeks in two phases – Basic phase and the Advanced phase.
The focus of Basic Military Training will be making the Assam Police trainees stronger both mentally and physically.
In Advance Military Training, the new recruits will be taught tactical combat skills as well as various policing aspects related to maintenance of law-and-order situations.
While the Indian Army and Assam Police have been jointly operating in Assam in counter-insurgency operations for more than three decades, this is for the first time the Army is training newly recruited police commandos.
The Assam Police recently recruited 2,720 personnel including more than 300 women and is in the process of raising five new commando battalions.
To fine-tune the skills of the commandos of the newly raised battalions, the Assam Police requested the Indian Army to for training.
The joint initiative will not only help in capacity building for the security architecture of the state, it will also further enhance synergy and capability to undertake joint operations between the state and armed forces, a senior Indian Army official, said.
