In a fitting acknowledgment of stellar performances throughout the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the World Cup team on Monday.

The team includes six players from the Indian squad and two from the triumphant Australian team.

The highest run-scorer, Virat Kohli, who was also named the Player of the Tournament, headlines the lineup alongside Captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and the top wicket-taker, Mohammed Shami.

Australia’s dynamic duo, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and spinner Adam Zampa, secured their spots in the lineup after their crucial contributions led Australia to a record-extending sixth World Cup title with a convincing six-wicket victory on Sunday.

Maxwell’s remarkable performances included a double century against Afghanistan and a blistering 40-ball 100 against the Netherlands earlier in the tournament.

The selection panel, comprising cricketing luminaries such as West Indies great Ian Bishop, former Australia batter Shane Watson, and ICC General Manager Wasim Khan, among others, carefully considered the standout performers.

World Cup Team of the Tournament:

Quinton de Kock (wk) (South Africa) – 594 runs at an average of 59.40

Rohit Sharma (c) (India) – 597 runs at an average of 54.27

Virat Kohli (India) – 765 runs at an average of 95.62

Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand) – 552 runs at an average of 69.5

KL Rahul (India) – 452 runs at an average of 75.33

Glenn Maxwell (Australia) – 400 runs at 66.66 and six wickets at 55

Ravindra Jadeja (India) – 120 runs at 40 and 16 wickets at an average of 24.87

Jasprit Bumrah (India) – 20 wickets at an average of 18.65

Dilshan Madushanka (Sri Lanka) – 21 wickets at an average of 25

Adam Zampa (Australia) – 23 wickets at an average of 22.39

Mohammed Shami (India) – 24 wickets at an average of 10.70

12th player: Gerald Coetzee (South Africa) – 20 wickets at an average of 19.80

The announcement follows the thrilling final on November 19, where Australian opener Travis Head’s spectacular innings of 137 powered Australia to victory at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Despite a tricky target of 241, Head’s brilliance guided Australia to success with seven overs to spare.
