Shillong: A construction worker lost his life after a clash with a colleague at a worksite near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex in the Polo Ground area of Shillong on the night of March 14, police said.
The victim, Rash Ch. Momin (30), hailed from Shipur village in South West Khasi Hills district.
Authorities said he suffered severe head injuries during the incident and was rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 11:40 pm despite efforts to revive him.
The incident occurred at an ongoing construction site where Momin was employed by Badri Rai Pvt. Ltd..
Initial investigations revealed that an argument broke out between Momin and another worker, Jakob D. Marak, who is also from the same village.
Police said the disagreement escalated into a scuffle during which Marak allegedly struck Momin from behind with a bamboo stick.

The blow caused him to collapse and sustain fatal injuries.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said both men had reportedly been drinking before the confrontation, which eventually turned violent.
A case has been registered and Marak has been taken into custody, while police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have also appealed to contractors and workers to maintain discipline at worksites to avoid such incidents in the future.
