Dormonath Ch. Sangma is likely to take over as the new Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council following the resignation of incumbent leader Albinush R. Marak.
According to sources within the council, Sangma has garnered the backing of a majority of the Members of District Council after 21 MDCs initiated a no-confidence motion against the previous leadership.

Marak stepped down from the top post shortly before the council convened a special session where the no-confidence motion against him was scheduled to be discussed.
The change in leadership signals a major political development within the GHADC, with council members now preparing to constitute a new executive committee under Sangma’s leadership.
Officials said the remaining formalities for setting up the new executive body are expected to be carried out during the ongoing special session of the council in Shillong.
