Heavy rainfall, accompanied by hailstorms and strong winds, reportedly lashed several parts of Manipur on Sunday. Trees were uprooted, and electricity poles toppled, leading to power disruptions across multiple areas of the state.
The severe weather has caused difficulties for many families and communities across both hill and valley districts.
In southern Thanga village near Loktak Lake, high-velocity winds destroyed five houses around 2 a.m. on Sunday, while another six homes were damaged in nearby Moirang. Residents have called on authorities for urgent relief to help affected families.
A severe hailstorm caused huge damage in Rikhumai Taphou in northern Senapati district, affecting several households.
In view of the crisis, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, said that government had directed concerned officials to take immediate steps to mitigate the impact of the severe weather.
In a post on X, CM Singh said, “In view of the heavy rains and hailstorms affecting several parts of the state, strict directions have been issued to the concerned officials to take immediate measures to reduce the impact on affected families and communities.”

He also added that relief teams had been activated to ensure timely assistance and access to essential supplies.

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, till tomorrow.
