The Manipuri film Boong, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, has scripted history by becoming the first film from Manipur to cross the Rs 1-crore mark at the box office following its recent theatrical re-release.
The film, which earlier won international acclaim, was honoured in the Best Children’s and Family Film category at the BAFTA Awards held at Royal Festival Hall in London on February 22.
The project is backed by Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures.
Released in theatres on March 6, Boong centres on a young boy, played by Gugun Kipgen, who longs to bring his fractured family back together.

Raised by his single mother Mandakini, portrayed by Bala Hijam Ningthoujam, the boy embarks on an emotional journey with his best friend in search of his missing father.
The story explores themes of hope, resilience and the enduring bond between a mother and child.
The film marks the directorial debut of Lakshmipriya Devi and has already earned recognition on the global festival circuit.
It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and was later screened at major events including the International Film Festival of India and the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
