The Indian National Congress has released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. The party has left 15 seats for its alliance partners in the state.
With the latest announcement, the party has so far declared 65 candidates for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly.
The second list issued by Congress general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal on Saturday stated that Nurul Islam will contest from Srijangram, Abdul Khaleque from Mandia, Rekibuddin Ahmed from Chamaria, Devid Phukan from Tinsukia and Bipul Gogoi from Tingkhong.
Meanwhile, the party has left the constituencies of Bhowanipur-Sorbhog, Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central, Goreswar, Morigaon, Barhampur, Binnakandi, Behali, Sadiya, Dibrugarh, Khowang, Sarupathar, Diphu and Amri for its alliance partners.
Meanwhile, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi said that a broader opposition front will emerge, adding that people will soon see a “rainbow coalition” taking shape in the state.

On the other hand, Raijor Dal has announced its candidates for two more constituencies for the upcoming assembly elections, taking the number of party nominees named so far to 13. A statement issued by party president and MLA Akhil Gogoi on Saturday named Harikanta Das from Naoboicha and Babul Sonowal from Dhemaji.
Earlier this month, the Assam Congress temporarily paused discussions on a proposed electoral alliance with the Raijor Dal for the Assembly elections, citing an unfavourable environment.
