Amazon India has expanded its logistics network in the Northeast by introducing a new air cargo route linking Guwahati and Kolkata under its dedicated freighter service, Amazon Air.
The move is expected to significantly reduce delivery timelines and improve connectivity for sellers and customers across the region.
The company said the new route will enhance delivery speeds by up to five times, strengthening its ability to serve all seven northeastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
The expansion is aimed at improving access for businesses in the region to customers across India while ensuring faster and more reliable deliveries.
The inaugural Amazon Air flight to Guwahati was flagged off from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Friday by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
Amazon Air, launched in India in 2023, initially connected major cities including Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
With the addition of the Guwahati–Kolkata route, the e-commerce giant is extending its dedicated air cargo operations to better serve the Northeast.
Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said the new service would open greater opportunities for businesses in the region by enabling sellers to connect more efficiently with customers across the country.
He noted that faster fulfilment speeds would allow enterprises to expand their market reach and participate more actively in India’s growing digital economy, while also ensuring quicker deliveries for customers across Assam and the wider Northeast.
Kota added that improvements in logistics infrastructure are also expected to create employment opportunities for local youth and contribute to the overall economic growth of the region.
In addition to operating its own fleet under Amazon Air, the company also utilises cargo capacity from other domestic airlines to support its logistics network across India.
