Ampati: Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner (DC) has issued an advisory directing all government employees in the district to exercise caution while using personal and social media platforms amid the prevailing situation in parts of the Garo Hills region.
According to an order issued by the DC Kum. Anendya Raajsshre, IAS, government employees have been directed not to post or forward messages, audio or video clips, pictures, or other content that may be provocative or inflammatory in nature.
The advisory also cautions government employees against posting or commenting on law and order incidents occurring in other districts or states in a manner that could influence public sentiment, ideology, or trigger reactions among sections of society.
The order stated that such actions could potentially aggravate the already sensitive situation in the region.
The directive applies to all government offices in South West Garo Hills, and Heads of Offices have been instructed to ensure that the order is strictly followed by their staff.
The order also warns that any violation will invite legal action under relevant laws in addition to disciplinary proceedings under the Meghalaya Civil Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 2019.

This comes amid heightened tensions in parts of the Garo Hills region following violent incidents during the nomination process for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections. Curfew in the West Garo Hills district has been extended for another 48 hours amid the prevailing law-and-order situation.
In an order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, West Garo Hills District Magistrate Vibhor Agarwal said the curfew will remain in force from 12:00 A.M. on March 11, 2026, until 12:00 A.M. on March 13, 2026, unless withdrawn earlier.
