Agartala: A new intercity train service between Narangi near Guwahati and Agartala will commence on March 13, significantly improving rail connectivity between Assam and Tripura.
According to a notification issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway on Tuesday, the intercity train will halt at several key stations along the route, including Jagiroad, Hojai, Lumding, New Haflong, Badarpur, New Karimganj, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Ambassa.
According to the General Manager (Operations), the inaugural run of the train will be flagged off from Narangi Railway Station on Friday.
The inaugural special train, Narangi-Agartala Inaugural Special, is scheduled to depart from Narangi at 2:30 PM and reach Agartala at 5:45 AM the following day.
The train will consist of 13 coaches, including AC Chair Car, AC Three-Tier, Sleeper Class, Second Sitting, and luggage-cum-brake vans, ensuring accommodation for different categories of passengers.
Welcoming the development, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the new service would significantly enhance connectivity in the region.
“A train service between Narangi and Agartala is set to be flagged off on March 13. The service will boost connectivity significantly,” Chowdhury said in a post on social media.

He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha for introducing the train service.
The introduction of this train is expected to further strengthen rail connectivity in the northeastern region and provide a major boost to passenger movement between Assam and Tripura.
