In a move aimed at strengthening hospitality infrastructure, the Assam Cabinet has approved the construction of Silchar’s first five-star hotel with an estimated investment of around Rs 103 crore.
The project will be developed by Polo Hotels Group and is expected to enhance the tourism, business, and events ecosystem in the Barak Valley.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Polo Hotels Group will oversee the construction, investing around Rs 103 crore into the initiative.
CM Sarma said, “Our cabinet has given a go ahead to construct a Five Star hotel in Silchar, to Polo Hotels Group. The Polo Hotels Group will be spending around Rs 103 crore on this project. This is going to be the first five-star hotel in Silchar.”
Founded in Shillong in 1991, the Polo Hotels Group has grown from a Meghalaya-based hospitality venture into one of Northeast India’s most prominent hotel chains.

The project will bring international-standard luxury hospitality infrastructure to the Barak Valley for the first time. Silchar, which serves as the main commercial and administrative centre of southern Assam, is expected to benefit from improved facilities for high-end tourism, corporate travel and major events.
According to project details, the hotel will include 100 premium rooms and suites, designed to meet global hospitality standards while incorporating elements of the local culture and identity of the Barak Valley.
Key facilities will include multiple specialty restaurants and bars, a resort-style swimming pool, a full-service spa and wellness centre, a modern fitness facility, and state-of-the-art banquet and conference infrastructure capable of hosting corporate summits,exhibitions, weddings, and government events. Industry analysts note that India’s hospitality sector has witnessed a strong rebound in recent years.
