Shillong: Meghalaya Governor C. H. Vijayashankar on Saturday unveiled four books authored by faculty members of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) during a programme held at Lok Bhavan.

The event was attended by Principal Secretary to the Governor H. C. Chaudhary along with academicians and guests.

Among the books released was Dad and the Salesman written by Bikika Laloo Tariang.

Another title unveiled was Indigenous Games Played in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, co-authored by Andriana Pyngrope, Tariang and Rumika Talang.

The Governor also released Mandatory Poison and Other Shillong Things, authored by Tariang, along with Shillong: Glimpses of a City Through the Lens of an Amateur Photographer, which captures everyday scenes and perspectives of the hill city.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijayashankar commended the authors for their efforts in contributing to literature that reflects the culture, traditions and daily life of Meghalaya.

He noted that such works play a significant role in preserving the state’s heritage and documenting indigenous knowledge for future generations.

The Governor observed that writings focusing on traditional practices, including indigenous games and lived experiences in Shillong, help foster cultural awareness and encourage younger people to remain connected with their roots.

Expressing gratitude at the event, Prof. Tariang thanked the Governor for unveiling the books and acknowledged the support extended towards academic and creative initiatives in the state.
