Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former speaker of the Bihar legislative assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, has been appointed as the new governor of Nagaland.
Rashtrapati Bhavan announced this on Thursday evening as part of a major administrative reshuffle involving several states and Union Territories, including Nagaland, Delhi, Ladakh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh.
Reacting to his appointment, Yadav expressed gratitude to Droupadi Murmu and Narendra Modi for entrusting him with the responsibility. He said he would work for the development of the state while functioning within the constitutional framework.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio congratulated Nand Kishore Yadav on his new appointment.
“On behalf of the people of Nagaland, I congratulate Shri Nand Kishore Yadav Ji @nkishoreyadav on his appointment as the Governor of Nagaland. I look forward to working together for the welfare and continued progress of the State,” he wrote in a post on X.
Nand Kishore Yadav served as the 17th Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2024 to 2025 and earlier held key portfolios, including road construction and health, in the Government of Bihar.
Yadav’s appointment is part of a broader reshuffle of governors and lieutenant governors announced by the President. According to an official communiqué, several officials have been transferred or newly appointed, with the changes taking effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.

Meanwhile, R. N. Ravi has been shifted from Tamil Nadu to take charge as Governor of West Bengal, while retired Lieutenant General of Indian Army and a well-known defence and strategic affairs expert, Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed Governor of Bihar.
Vinai Kumar Saxena, the present lieutenant governor of Delhi, has been appointed lieutenant governor of Ladakh, while former Indian ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been named as the new lieutenant governor of Delhi.
In another move, Shiv Pratap Shukla, currently governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed governor of Telangana. Jishnu Dev Varma, the present governor of Telangana, has been transferred and appointed as governor of Maharashtra.
Kavinder Gupta has been moved from his role as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to become Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Retired army officer Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed governor of Bihar.
