The Assam Police on Thursday initiated legal proceedings against unidentified individuals for allegedly misusing the image of Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh to create an AI-generated video.
The police have urged the public to remain cautious and avoid falling victim to such fraudulent videos, while also encouraging citizens to report suspicious content without delay.
According to the police, the scammers digitally manipulated the image of the state’s Director General of Police to produce a fake video, which was later shared online using the fabricated name “IPS Sonu Sharma.”
Authorities have warned that the video is fraudulent and part of a larger online scam designed to mislead the public.
“’Deepfake Alert! Scammers are misusing the image of @DGPAssamPolice Shri @HardiSpeaks to create an AI-generated video, pretending to be a fake ‘IPS Sonu Sharma”, the Assam police posted on X.
