Imphal: Manipur will host the Fit India Carnival 2026 from March 8 to 10, starting with a mega ‘Sundays on Cycle‘ rally on International Women’s Day at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal.
The rally will be followed by a two-day carnival at Hapta Kangjeibung, bringing together students, residents and fitness enthusiasts to promote health, wellness and community participation.
The three-day programme is being organised as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement, launched by Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, to encourage citizens to adopt active lifestyles and make fitness a regular part of daily life.
The mega ‘Sundays on Cycle‘ rally on March 8 will mark the start of the celebrations and coincide with International Women’s Day, with a special focus on encouraging women and young people to participate in cycling and outdoor physical activities.
The Fit India Carnival on March 9 and 10 will feature a range of interactive programmes aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being. Participants will be able to join Zumba sessions, yoga workshops, structured exercise routines and fitness challenges conducted by trained instructors and experts.
Traditional games and regionally inspired activities will also be part of the event, creating an inclusive environment where people of all age groups can take part and engage in healthy recreational activities.
Similar Fit India Carnivals have been organised in different cities across the country to encourage public participation in fitness initiatives. The Northeast has witnessed strong involvement in the movement, with the recent carnival in Guwahati drawing enthusiastic participation from residents and students.
The carnival in Imphal will also include cultural performances reflecting the diversity of the Northeast, along with music and entertainment segments to add to the festive atmosphere.
An official from the Sports Authority of India’s North-East Regional Centre in Imphal said the event aims to bring communities together through the shared spirit of fitness and well-being.
“Beginning with the Mega Sundays on Cycle rally on International Women’s Day and followed by two days of carnival activities, the event seeks to inspire people across Manipur to adopt active and healthy lifestyles,” the official said.
