Imphal: Security forces seized a large quantity of suspected narcotics after intercepting a vehicle during a routine check in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, police said on Thursday.
Officials said the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about cross-border drug trafficking from Myanmar. The vehicle, a Mahindra Thar bearing registration number MN 01 AW 8063, was intercepted at a naka check post under the jurisdiction of Tengnoupal police station on March 4.
During a search of the vehicle, security personnel recovered 2.33 kg of WY tablets and 0.592 kg of brown sugar, along with a mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, and the vehicle’s registration certificate.
According to the police, the brown sugar was concealed in 16 multi-coloured soap cases, while the WY tablets were packed in four plastic packets and hidden inside the vehicle.
The seized items were taken into custody, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source and intended destination of the contraband.
Officials said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
Meanwhile, security forces continued intensive search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable locations across several districts of Manipur to maintain law and order, officials said on Thursday.
As part of the security measures, a total of 116 nakas and checkpoints were set up across the state in both hill and valley districts. However, no individuals were detained during the checking operations.

The movement of 184 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 was facilitated under security cover.
Authorities said strict security arrangements have been put in place in vulnerable areas, and convoys are being escorted through sensitive stretches to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles.
