Dol Utsav celebrations were marred by tragedy on Tuesday after two young men from Guwahati lost their lives after drowning at Ganapati waterfalls, located along the Assam-Meghalaya border, reports said.
According to initial reports, a group of five friends from Guwahati had gone to the waterfall to enjoy the holiday.
All five entered the water to bathe, but after some time, two of them went missing. The remaining friends immediately launched a search and, unable to locate them, informed local authorities.
Police responded promptly and launched a search operation. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the site. Both Meghalaya Police and Assam Police carried out a coordinated rescue operation to locate the missing youths.

After an intensive search operation, the bodies of the two youths were recovered from between rocks in the water, officials said.
As per reports, the deceased have been identified as Jayrani Wari and Wenar Bodo, residents of the Kharghuli area in Guwahati. The bodies were taken to a hospital at Nongpoh in Meghalaya for post-mortem examination.
