The Assam government has declared a local holiday on March 4, 2026, in the Kamrup Metropolitan district on the occasion of Dol Jatra (Holi).
According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department, all state government offices, educational institutions, and financial institutions within the district will remain closed on the day in observance of the festival.
The official notification said, “The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare local holiday on 4th March 2026 within the jurisdiction Kamrup (Metro) district on account of Dol Jatra/Holi festival.”
“All State Government offices, educational institutions within Kamrup (Metro) district will remain closed on the 4th March, 2026 on account of this local holiday,” it added.
The order also applies to financial institutions operating within the district. Financial institutions will remain closed under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 and the Ministry of Home Affairs notification No. 20/25/Pub-I dated June 8, 1957.

Dol Jatra, or Dol Purnima, is a major, vibrant festival celebrated on the full moon day of Phalguna (Feb-March), marking the arrival of spring. It is celebrated in Assam, West Bengal and other parts, often serving as an addition to Holi festivities.
