Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the state has witnessed a rapid expansion of its connectivity infrastructure since 2021, claiming that the government has been building an average of 13 kilometres of roads every day and five bridges every week.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said the accelerated pace of construction reflects the government’s focus on strengthening transport networks across the state.
He described connectivity as the backbone of Assam’s development and said the sustained infrastructure push has helped bring communities closer while opening up new economic and social opportunities.

Highlighting connectivity as central to the state’s growth model, Sarma said it forms the foundation of his vision of an “Atal, Avichal, Agragami Assam” — a strong, stable and forward-moving state.
He added that improved road and bridge networks are critical for ensuring balanced development across urban, rural, remote and border areas.
Officials said enhanced connectivity has significantly reduced travel time and improved access to healthcare, education, markets and government services, particularly in rural and flood-prone regions.

The expansion of transport infrastructure has also supported growth in trade, tourism and investment, strengthening Assam’s role as a key economic hub in the Northeast.
Over the past few years, the state has undertaken multiple large-scale projects, including new highway construction, strengthening of rural road networks and completion of long-pending bridge projects over the Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
The connectivity drive has also been aligned with national infrastructure programmes, positioning Assam as a strategic gateway to the Northeast and a crucial link in India’s ‘Act East’ policy.
Sarma reiterated that infrastructure development would remain a core priority of his government, stating that sustained investment in roads, bridges and transport networks is essential for inclusive growth and the long-term economic transformation of Assam.
