Guwahati: Assamese feature film Moi Eti Nixhasor has earned international recognition after winning the Award of Excellence – Special Mention at the US-based Accolade Global Film Competition, filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky announced on Sunday.
The film, set against Assam’s complex social and political backdrop, follows the life of Koduwa, a village thief whose journey reflects themes of prejudice, unrest and resilience.
Kotoky, a National Award-winning director, said the recognition places the film among the top entries of the competition, a distinction reserved for projects demonstrating exceptional artistic and technical quality.
Describing the honour as significant, Kotoky said the Accolade Global Film Competition is regarded as one of the world’s most credible platforms for independent cinema, having been ranked among the top 25 festivals worth the entry fee by MovieMaker Magazine.
He said the award belongs to the entire creative team that helped bring the story and its characters to life.
The director added that the film’s selection reflects the universality of human emotions, noting that its themes resonate beyond geographical and cultural boundaries.

Though rooted in a remote Assamese village and a specific period in time, the narrative mirrors social and political challenges faced across societies worldwide.
In another boost to its international journey, the film has also been selected for screening at the Covellite International Film Festival 2026 in the United States.
Moi Eti Nixhasor is based on a true story written by senior journalist Anuradha Sharma Pujari and has been produced by the National Film Development Corporation in association with red river & blue hills.
The film is expected to see a commercial release in Assam in the coming months.
