A massive fire reportedly erupted at the Gyan Bikash Bidyapith Senior Secondary School at Rupahihat in Assam’s Nagaon district on Sunday, leaving the well-known private institution completely gutted.
The blaze destroyed the school building and caused extensive damage to its property and infrastructure.
According to reports, within minutes, thick plumes of smoke and towering flames engulfed the school building, leaving no scope to control the fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze erupted suddenly and spread across the campus within a short span of time. Flames were seen engulfing the structure as local residents gathered at the spot.
Reports said that property worth several crores of rupees is feared to have been destroyed in the massive inferno. Furniture, academic records, electronic equipment, and other valuable assets were reportedly consumed by the flames.

Meanwhile, locals alleged that despite the gravity of the situation, no fire brigade teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived at the scene during the early hours of the incident.
Accusing the authorities of responding too late, residents allegedly surrounded the fire officials and launched a protest.
The exact cause of the blaze has not been ascertained so far.
