In a move aimed to ensure a peaceful environment ahead of the upcoming bye-election to the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency in Nagaland, the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has ordered the mandatory physical verification of all firearms and ammunition across the district.
Invoking Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, the order requires all licensed arms holders in Mokokchung District to report to their nearest concerned Police Station and present their weapons, ammunition, and license booklets for verification during office hours.
The compliance deadline has been set for March 20, 2026.

To ensure strict monitoring, Officers-in-Charge of concerned police stations are instructed to furnish daily reports in prescribed format through the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung. These reports must include details such as license holder’s name, license number, UIN number, type and quantity of arms, last renewal date, and number of ammunition possessed.
The move comes as part of the district administration’s efforts to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents during the bye-election.
