Ampati (Meghalaya): Shipra Kumali L.P. School in South West Garo Hills marked a historic milestone on Tuesday with the inauguration of its new school building, coinciding with the celebration of the institution’s centenary year.

The building was inaugurated by Raymond D. Shira, Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Ampati, Government of Meghalaya.

Addressing the gathering, Shira underlined the role of schools beyond academics, describing them as centres for discipline, moral education and character formation.

He stressed that education must focus on the holistic development of students, preparing them to become responsible and value-driven citizens.

The centenary programme was attended by Sentlfilson B. Marak, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO), Ampati, along with several dignitaries, community leaders and local residents. The event was chaired by Shyamol Koch.

Also present were Mohan Bangsi Barman, Head Teacher of Shipra Kumali L.P. School, and Dharmeshwar Koch, former Head Teacher of Kumli Secondary School.

The celebrations included cultural performances by a Koch cultural troupe, adding colour and vibrancy to the centenary celebration.

Founded a century ago, Shipra Kumali L.P. School is among the oldest educational institutions in the area and has played a significant role in educating generations of students in South West Garo Hills.

The inauguration of the new building was widely seen as a major step towards strengthening educational infrastructure and improving learning conditions for students in the region.
