Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday unveiled a major package aimed at strengthening infrastructure and boosting agriculture in Assam.
Chouhan announced the approval of 728 new roads worth over Rs 1,800 crore along with 62 bridges. The projects are expected to improve connectivity in rural and semi-urban areas, many of which continue to face transportation challenges, especially during the monsoon season.
Announcing that a “safe, developed and Aatmanirbhar Bharat” is being built under the Assam Chief Minister’s leadership, Chouhan said the Government of India, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is taking “all possible steps” for Assam’s progress, development and public welfare.
He said, “Under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, a safe, developed and Aatmanirbhar Bharat is being built. Under the leadership and guidance of the Prime Minister, Government of India is taking all possible steps for Assam’s progress, development and public welfare.”

“In the event today, the proposal for 728 roads worth over Rs 1800 Crores, and 62 bridges have been sanctioned for the people of Assam. A demand had come in for power tillers. Additional funds have been given for the same,” the Unbion Minister added.
Alongside infrastructure expansion, the Union Minister also announced farmer-centric measures, including a new FPO scheme and additional funds for power tillers. He also confirmed that the Centre has approved procurement of produce under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and additional funds for the purchase of power tillers in response to demands raised locally.
Additionally, he congratulated the Assam government for providing an additional Rs 500 per quintal over and above the Minimum Support Price (MSP), calling it a farmer-centric decision.
