Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday stated that the newly built terminal at Guwahati airport will become operational from February 22.
The modern facility at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 20. The chief minister said the launch of the terminal marks a significant milestone in strengthening Assam’s connectivity and infrastructure.
In a post on X, CM Sarma described the development as a major transformation for the state.
”From an open space to a world-class gateway in just a few years. This transformation reflects a clear vision for a more connected and confident Assam,” Sarma said in a post on X.
”Inaugurated by Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji, the @GuwahatiAirport opens its doors to the world from Feb 22,” he said.
Officials indicated that both domestic and international flight operations are expected to gradually shift to the new terminal by March. The existing terminal building will subsequently be repurposed as a dedicated cargo facility.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore, the Integrated Terminal-2 is designed to accommodate approximately 13.1 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing the airport’s capacity.
The airport is named after Assam’s first chief minister, Gopinath Bordoloi. An 80-foot statue of the late leader was also unveiled by the Prime Minister outside the new terminal complex during the inauguration ceremony.
