Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle, Sumeet Singhal has authorised train operations on the newly constructed 15.70 km broad-gauge (BG) line section connecting Assam’s Murkongselek to Arunachal Pradesh’s Sille.
Paving way for enhanced connectivity in the region, after inspection and speed trials, the CRS has approved train operations on the route at a maximum permissible speed of 110 KMPH.
The safety inspection and speed trails were conducted on February 12 and 13, 2026.
The 15.7-km Murkongselek-Sille section is a part of the ongoing 26.15-km long new rail line project between Murkongselek and Pasighat.
The railway line runs from Murkongselek in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh and includes three new stations: Sille, Labo, and Pasighat, along with 27 major bridges.

The Murkongselek-Pasighat line project is set to greatly improve connectivity between Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and the rest of the country.
Once completed, the new line will extend long-distance rail connectivity up to Pasighat through the Rangiya-Murkongselek route and via the Bogibeel Bridge.
The project is expected to facilitate increased passenger and freight movement in the region while improving travel convenience for local residents. It is also likely to boost small-scale industries and position Arunachal Pradesh as an emerging tourism hub.
