Shillong: Vishnu Bhardwaj Upadhyay has emerged as the highest scorer from Meghalaya in the JEE (Main) 2026 Session 1, securing an impressive 98.96 percentile and placing himself among the top performers in the country.

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2026 Session 1 Paper 1 (BE/BTech) was held between January 21 and January 28 across 658 centres in India and 15 international cities.

Vishnu recorded a 99.84 percentile in Chemistry, 97.88 in Physics, and 92.24 in Mathematics, reflecting strong all-round performance across core subjects.

Prepared through the digital learning platform of PhysicsWallah, Vishnu attributed his success to structured online preparation, regular mock tests and consistent academic discipline.

He said access to quality guidance and digital learning tools played a crucial role in his journey, especially while preparing from Meghalaya.

“Preparing for JEE has been a long and disciplined journey. Coming from Meghalaya, having access to the right guidance made a big difference. My goal has always been to study at the IITs, and I focused on conceptual clarity and time management,” Vishnu said, adding that he is now preparing intensively for JEE Main Session 2.

His performance also highlights the growing reach of digital and hybrid education platforms in remote regions, helping students from smaller states compete at the national level through online learning ecosystems and academic support systems.

The results of JEE (Main) 2026 Session 1 were declared by the National Testing Agency on Monday.

The examination is the gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes such as BE and BTech in premier institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology.

According to official data, 12 candidates secured a perfect 100 percentile score in this session.

Out of 13,55,293 registered candidates, 13,04,653 appeared for the examination nationwide.
