Dibrugarh: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, laid the foundation stone of the Greater Dibrugarh Press Club office (Dibrugarh District Journalists’ Association building) on Wednesday under the MPLADS fund.
The initiative seeks to strengthen institutional infrastructure and provide improved facilities to the journalistic fraternity of the region. Sonowal reaffirmed the vital role of the media in strengthening the fourth pillar of democracy
On the occasion, the Union Minister encouraged media professionals to continue fostering public awareness and enriching the field of journalism through a constructive, responsible, and positive approach.

“For the benefit of news services, today I am laid the foundation stone of the office of the Greater Dibrugarh Press Club (the building of the Dibrugarh District Journalists’ Association). I sincerely appeal all journalists to contribute to the news field by promoting public awareness and fostering a positive perspective,” Sonowal said in a post on X.
The event was attended by Assam cabinet minister Prasanta Phukan, Deputy Mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Ujjwal Phukan, President of Greater Dibrugarh Press Club Manjit Bora, General Secretary Ratul Buragohain, President of Dibrugarh District Journalists’ Association Bipin Sharma, and other distinguished dignitaries.
