Itanagar: An active cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Akato) surrendered before security forces in Khonsa town of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, officials said.
The surrendered militant has been identified as SS Sergeant Inno Mosha Pangsa (Chang), 23, a resident of Tuensang village in Nagaland’s Tuensang district. According to officials, he had joined the outfit on April 19, 2022.
An official statement said the surrender followed specific intelligence inputs received from 3 CIB and corroborated by 19 WEU around noon on February 15 regarding the presence of an NSCN (Akato) member in Khonsa town. Acting on the information, the Khonsa Battalion launched a focused operation and tasked its sources to establish contact with the individual and persuade him to lay down arms.
Following sustained engagement and negotiations, the cadre agreed to shun armed activities and return to the mainstream. The operation culminated in his voluntary surrender, the official added.
After surrendering, he was taken to the Battalion Headquarters in Khonsa. During the process, security forces recovered a .32 calibre pistol, four rounds of ammunition, a walkie-talkie with charger, and an appointment letter from his possession.
