The portals of revered Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand, will reopen its doors for devotees on April 22, 2026. This marks the end of its nearly six-month closure during winter.

According to the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, the Panchmukhi Doli of Lord Kedarnath will depart from Ukhimath on April 19, reach Gaurikund on April 20, and arrive at Kedarnath Dham on April 21.

Authorities decided the auspicious date on the occasion of Mahashivratri after conducting traditional rituals and consulting the Hindu calendar.

Harish Gaur, Public Relations Officer of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, said the auspicious date and time for reopening the shrine were decided on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Sunday at the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath – the Omkareshwar Temple.

Following the rituals and special prayers, religious scholars and priests calculated the muhurat (auspicious timing) through panchang or Hindu calendar readings.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while speaking to media persons after performing the “Jalabhishek” at Vankhandi Mahadev Temple at Chakarpur on Sunday, announced that the gates of Kedarnath Temple will be opened on April 22 and added that the preparations for the same have begun.

The chief minister further stated that the Uttarakhand government will ensure the devotees’ safety.

“On 22nd April, the portals of Kedarnath Temple will be opened. Preparations have already started. We will ensure that all the devotees who come to Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand, are safe,” CM Dhami said.

Further, the Badrinath Dham will open its doors on April 23, while the Gangotri Dham and Yamunotri Dham will reopen on April 19.

The reopening of Kedarnath Temple signals the beginning of a deeply sacred pilgrimage for thousands of devotees. Located at an altitude of over 11,000 feet in the Himalayas, the temple stands as a symbol of devotion, endurance and spiritual strength.
