Imphal: The Manipur government has revoked its earlier orders suspending internet and data services in several districts of the state, following a review of the prevailing law and order situation.

On February 10, the state government had suspended internet services across the Ukhrul district for five days as a preventive measure. Similar restrictions were also imposed in the Lhungtin Sub-Division of Kangpokpi district and Phungyar Sub-Division of Kamjong district from 5:30 pm on the same day.

However, the Manipur government issued an order on Friday, where they said that “the State Government reviewed the prevailing law and order situation in the State along with the inconveniences faced by the public and institutions due to internet service suspension and decided to revoke any order for suspension of internet services in the State.”

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 3 of Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2026, the Governor of Manipur is pleased to order for revocation of any orders for temporary suspension of internet/ data services including VSAT, VPN and Broad band services in the State until further orders,” the order further read.

All internet service providers have been directed to comply with the latest order.

“All internet users are requested to use internet services responsibly in future to avoid any situation which may warrant any suspension of internet services in public interest in future,” the order stated.

Notably, on Tuesday, fresh violence erupted in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, with abandoned houses set ablaze and gunfire reported in the Litan Sareikhong area, after which the state government suspended internet services across the district.

Police said armed men torched several deserted houses and fired multiple rounds early in the morning, intensifying tensions already simmering after the alleged assault of a member of the Tangkhul Naga community.
