Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inspected the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran in Dibrugarh district, which is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14.

During the visit, Sarma examined the designated stretch of National Highway-37 that forms part of the landing facility and held discussions with Indian Air Force personnel as well as senior state government officials overseeing the project.

”All preparations are complete for @IAF_MCC’s historic landing and take-off demonstration scheduled on 14 February in presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi,” CM Sarma posted on X.

CM Sarma said the strengthening of defence preparedness and the creation of critical infrastructure have been made possible by the bold vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He added that Assam is proud to contribute to this strategic initiative, noting that the Moran Emergency Landing Facility will enable Indian Air Force aircraft to operate from the site whenever required.

“It is only due to the bold vision of Adarniya @narendramodi ji that defence preparedness has been ramped up and infra is built for any scenario. Assam is happy to play a part in this strategic vision with the Moran ELF allowing @IAF_MCC aircrafts to operate whenever needed,” he said.

”People of Assam are in awe! The @IAF_MCC landing and taking off exercise from the Emergency Landing Facility on the Moran highway is nothing but phenomenal,” the CM said.

Prime Minister Modi will land at Chabua before boarding a C-130 aircraft to the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF). He will then witness a 20-minute aerial display by the Indian Air Force, featuring fighter jets such as HAL Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Dassault Rafale, among others.

Following the programme, the Prime Minister will proceed to Guwahati for the second leg of his visit.

The Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility is a 4.2-kilometre reinforced stretch along the Moran Bypass, designed to function as a strategic, multi-purpose runway for IAF fighter jets and transport aircraft, bolstering defence preparedness, logistics support and disaster response capabilities.
