Imphal: Manipur on Thursday took new steps to strengthen road safety and improve air connectivity with the launch of Interceptor Vehicles and the Manipur Heli Service Portal by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand in Imphal.
The chief minister unveiled the two initiatives during the grand finale of the 37th National Road Safety Month celebrations held at the City Convention Centre. The nationwide observance was marked this year under the theme “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha.”
Sharing details on the social media platform X, the chief minister said he was honoured to attend the concluding event and introduce measures aimed at enhancing road safety enforcement and improving connectivity across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Manipur Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said the newly deployed Interceptor Vehicles would significantly help curb traffic violations and strengthen overall road discipline. He said the mobile, high-tech units are equipped to detect offences such as over-speeding, lane violations and riding without helmets.
Equipped with laser and radar systems along with automated cameras, the vehicles can capture real-time evidence, enabling authorities to issue e-challans on the spot. This, Dr Goel said, would act as a strong deterrent and improve the efficiency of traffic law enforcement.
On the Manipur Heli Service Portal, Dr Goel said the platform has been developed on the lines of the national Heli Sewa Portal to streamline helicopter services in the state. The portal will provide 24/7 online booking facilities and real-time flight schedule tracking.
