Security has been tightened around Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s residence after he received a threat message through WhatsApp from unidentified persons, police officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the actor approached the police after receiving a voice note containing the threat, following which security arrangements at his Central Mumbai residence were immediately strengthened.
Mumbai Police, along with private security personnel, have been deployed at the housing society where Singh lives.
Investigators suspect the involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with the threat believed to be part of an extortion attempt.
The Mumbai Police crime branch has taken over the investigation and is examining the origin of the message and possible links to organised crime networks.
The threat comes just days after a firing incident outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty in Juhu, raising further security concerns within the film industry.
In that case, an unidentified shooter had fired five rounds at Shetty’s home.

Gang member Shubham Lonkar, who is currently absconding, had allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack, and five accused have since been arrested.
Meanwhile, the managing committee of Singh’s housing society has formally approached the police, expressing concern over the movement of armed guards within common areas of the complex.
In a letter to authorities, the committee said that the frequent presence of armed personnel in spaces such as the lobby, gymnasium and children’s play area had raised safety and comfort concerns among residents.
Police officials said investigations are ongoing, and additional security measures will remain in place until the threat assessment is completed.
