Guwahati: The final session of the current Assam Legislative Assembly will commence on February 16, during which the state government will present a vote-on-account budget ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, according to an official notification issued on Thursday.
An order issued by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya said the House will assemble at 9:30 am on February 16. A senior Assembly official said the session will continue for four days.
“A vote-on-account budget will be tabled during these four days. The detailed programme has not been finalised yet, as the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has not met so far,” the official said.
Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly are likely to be held in March-April this year.

At present, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 64 MLAs, while its allies — Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) with nine members, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) with seven, and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) with three — together bolster the ruling coalition.
In the opposition, the Congress has 26 MLAs, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has 15, and the CPI(M) has one member. The House also has one Independent legislator.
