Aizawl: In a tragic incident, two persons lost their lives and another was injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into a gorge in Mizoram’s Saitual district, police said on Monday.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the three were travelling from Luangpawn village to Phullen village, around 20 km away, to attend a conference of the Presbyterian Church’s youth wing, officials said.
According to police, when the trio failed to reach their destination, concerned family members contacted residents of Phullen, who informed them that the three had not arrived. Villagers from Luangpawn subsequently launched a search and later located the vehicle at the accident site near Phullen village.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the car skidded off the road and fell into a gorge, a police officer said.
The deceased were identified as Lalthansanga (33), who was driving the vehicle, and Lalawmsanga (37). Both died on the spot. Their companion, Lalnunzira, sustained injuries in the accident.
