Bihar Police have arrested a wanted criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 from Nagaland in connection with an extortion case, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, Rahul Yadav, an active member of the Chhotu Yadav gang, was apprehended from Dimapur. He is a resident of Latra village under the Gopalpur police station area in Bhagalpur district.
According to police, the arrest followed complaints received on January 15 alleging that two unidentified individuals were extorting money from shopkeepers at the Dholbazza market.
A case was subsequently registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following which the Superintendent of Police constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter.
The SIT tracked Yadav to Nagaland and arrested him, seizing four mobile phones allegedly used to carry out the extortion, officials said.
During interrogation, the accused also led investigators to the recovery of illegal arms and ammunition from his native village in Latra.
Police officials said Yadav is involved in at least 14 criminal cases, including murder, dacoity, extortion and violations of arms laws.
