Guwahati: Gujarat Giants (GG) on Thursday announced the signing of Assam cricketer Jintimani Kalita as a replacement for injured Titas Sadhu for the remainder of the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.

Kalita, who previously represented the Mumbai Indians in the WPL, has 13 matches against her name in the tournament. A left-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler, she has been roped in by the Giants for Rs 10 lakh.

Sadhu, who joined Gujarat Giants from Delhi Capitals ahead of the current season, has not featured in any matches so far. The 21-year-old pacer was bought by the franchise for Rs 30 lakh at the WPL 2026 auction but remained unused in the team’s first five matches.

Congratulating Kalita on her selection, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) hailed the development as a proud moment for the state. “Heartiest congratulations to Jintimoni Kalita on being picked for Gujarat Giants as an injury replacement for Titas Sadhu in the ongoing Women’s Premier League. Her achievement is a moment of immense pride for Assam and a shining example of the growing strength of women’s cricket in the state. Best wishes to her for the WPL season ahead,” the ACA said in a social media post.

The Women’s Premier League, now in its fourth season, has continued to serve as a key platform for emerging and established talent in women’s cricket, offering players exposure to high-intensity competition alongside leading international stars. The tournament has played a significant role in strengthening India’s domestic talent pool and accelerating the growth of the women’s game across the country.

Kalita’s signing further underlines the expanding footprint of women’s cricket in the region and reflects the league’s growing impact in creating pathways for domestic players to compete at the highest level.
