Aizawl: The area under the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Lawngtlai district of southern Mizoram has recorded an overall literacy rate of 61 per cent, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.
The literacy figure emerged from the first comprehensive survey conducted by the CADC’s Adult Education department between October 2025 and January 2026. The survey covered all 88 village councils within the council’s jurisdiction.
Officials said data were collected with the cooperation of school headmasters and various non-governmental organisations operating in the area.
“Based on the data collected, the overall literacy rate of the CADC area has been assessed at 61.03 per cent,” the statement said.
Alongside the survey, the Adult Education department also carried out literacy awareness campaigns in selected villages to sensitise residents about the importance of education and lifelong learning.
Officials noted that this was the first such comprehensive literacy assessment undertaken by the CADC’s Adult Education department since its establishment.
