The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been conferred the “University of the Year 2025” title by Academic Insight at the Education Excellence Awards and Summit held in Bengaluru.
The recognition was presented during a national-level ceremony that brought together educationists, academic leaders and policymakers from across the country.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque and Vice-Chancellor G D Sharma received the award on behalf of the institution.
The jury cited USTM’s strong performance across multiple parameters, including academic standards in science, technology and multidisciplinary education, adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, research output, innovation and industry-academia collaboration.
The university was also commended for its emphasis on sustainability, healthcare education, patents and research publications, along with its contribution to regional development in the Northeast.

Efforts to enhance student outcomes through internships, placements and industry-linked academic projects were among the factors considered.
This marks the second consecutive year USTM has received an Excellence Award from Academic Insight, having been recognised in 2024 as well.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first private university in science and technology in Northeast India.
It secured an ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in its first accreditation cycle in 2021.
