Shillong: Development projects valued at more than Rs 11 crore are under way in the South Shillong constituency, with a focus on road infrastructure, sports facilities and water conservation, South Shillong MLA and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai said.
Shullai reviewed the ongoing works during a site inspection at Raid Laban, accompanied by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Sports Department and Water Resources Department, as well as representatives of the local shnong.
According to the minister, a total of Rs 11.23 crore has been sanctioned for the projects, following which work has commenced.
Nearly Rs 4 crore has been allotted to the PWD for widening the stretch of road from the gate of Raid Laban College to Pom Muid to ease traffic movement in the area.
Shullai also acknowledged the cooperation of the Raid Laban shnong and Raid Laban College for voluntarily making land available for the road-widening project.

During the visit, the MLA inspected the existing football ground and another site where work is in progress to lay artificial turf.
He said around Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the football ground to improve sports infrastructure in the locality.
In addition, the minister said the Water Resources Department has prepared a detailed project report and cost estimates for a proposed check dam, with an estimated expenditure of about Rs 2 crore.
He said the project is expected to help conserve water for use at the football ground while also providing an additional water source for the wider Laban area.
