Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday said he has been assured by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that all those involved in the murder of Anjel Chakma will be brought to justice.
The 24-year-old, a resident of Unakoti district in Tripura, was critically injured in an attack by a group of six people in Dehradun on December 9 and died during treatment on December 26.
According to the police, five of the accused have been arrested, while one remains absconding.
Saha, who visited Anjel Chakma’s family at Nandannagar on the outskirts of Agartala, said the attack was initially directed at Anjel’s younger brother, Micheal Chakma, who is also a student in Dehradun.
Anjel was assaulted when he intervened to protect his brother and sustained severe injuries, eventually succumbing after 17 days in hospital.
Describing the incident as deeply painful, the Tripura chief minister said he had spoken to his Uttarakhand counterpart, who assured him that the case would be pursued without leniency.
He added that efforts were underway to arrest the remaining accused and that the investigation would continue until justice is delivered.

Saha said he is scheduled to be in New Delhi on January 19 and 20 for an official meeting and that Dhami is also expected to be in the capital during that period.
He said he plans to review the progress of the investigation and press for a thorough probe during the meeting.
The chief minister also said Anjel’s father, Tarun Kanti Chakma, a Border Security Force jawan currently posted in Manipur, had requested a transfer to the BSF’s Tripura Frontier headquarters at Salbagan.
He added that the government would look into the matter upon receipt of a formal request.
On the family’s plea for employment for Anjel’s younger brother, Saha said the government has asked for his bio-data for consideration.
