Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on BJP workers in West Tripura district, allegedly carried out by members of the ruling party’s ally, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible.

The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Hezamara area during the construction of a BJP office. According to police, two BJP workers sustained head injuries in the alleged assault and are currently undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital.

The attack triggered tension in the locality, prompting the deployment of a police picket to prevent any further escalation.

The chief minister said political differences could never justify violence or intimidation. “The government follows a zero-tolerance policy towards such incidents. The police and district administration have been directed to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those involved and ensure their prompt arrest,” Saha said.

He also instructed officials to take preventive measures to avoid a recurrence of similar incidents.

Meanwhile, the Tipra Motha Party also condemned the attack, describing it as “completely unexpected and deplorable.” Addressing a press conference on Thursday, TMP spokesperson Rajeshwar Debbarma said violence has no place in the party’s ideology.

He added that TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has repeatedly emphasised the importance of peace and harmony in the state. “For the development and progress of Tripura, all sections of society must work together. Violence and unrest only push the state backward,” Debbarma said.

Calling for collective responsibility, he urged political parties and citizens alike to maintain a peaceful environment. “Differences of opinion are natural in a democracy, but they must never be expressed through violence,” he said.

Debbarma further demanded strict action against all those involved, regardless of political affiliation, and called for a swift and impartial investigation to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
